Report on Java Lava Exiles’ outing 2017
29 Java Lavas in Exile met in the Southern Carpathians of Transylvania and enjoyed the get-together with friends, explored Brasov town and its restaurants, climbed the high mountains in the Piatra Craiului, Piatra Mare and Muntii Bucegi. We hiked on beautiful trails in the wide-spread forests, through canyons, crossed meadows and creeks, inhaled fresh air and afterwards had great food, sweet desserts, beer & wine. We made sightseeing trips to Dracula’s castle in Bran (mandatory), to Peles castle (Nick’s heart’s desire) and to fortified churches. No wild bears were spotted but our wildlife experts took photos of colourful birds.
On the last night, Honorary Chairman I, Rob, recalled some corner stones of the Java Lava constitution and reconfirmed some by-laws (e.g. the Rolf Zimmerli doctrine). He did not forget to appreciate the group’s girls and Nick’s mother as well.
During the meeting Count Dracula entered the room. But he was prevented from biting us by our crucifix and a garlic bulb. He was exiled to a corner of the room, but always tried to approach the chairmen.
Phil won the question-and-answer contest, followed by Mike and Rudolf. Winner Phil received as a prize Dracula’s wonderful new cape (from now on Phil will wear it on all Exiles’ trips) – Dracula wanted to get rid of it because he disliked the fine perfume smell. Mike and Rudolf received booby prizes (Dracula cards game, Bram Stoker’s book).
Our meeting concluded with a discussion about the next Exiles’ outing. A number of destinations were proposed. The voting resulted in a list of most preferred destinations: Madeira, Bulgaria, Ecrins (France) and Corsica. The Honorary Chairmen will take these results into consideration and decide upon and prepare the 2018 outing.
